The Royal Burgh of Annan has a long and colourful history and its close proximity to England has defined its character.  Each year in July the town celebrates the declaration of the Royal Charter with THE RIDING OF THE MARCHES It 's a real occasion and entertainment includes processions, sports, field displays and massed piped bands.

Annan museum, a 2 minute stroll from The Old Rectory is an excellent place to discover more about the local history of the town. Other activities on our doorstep include Annan swimming pool, again 2 minutes walk from the house, Annan cinema, the coast, river Annan and numerous places to eat.

There are plenty of opportunities for fishing around Annan. The salmon season runs from 25th February - 15th November and most beats stay open for grayling.

SUSTRANS (national cycle route) crosses the region linking Carlilse, Gretna, Eastriggs, Annan and Dumfries.  National cycle route 7 passes through to Annan and gives you the perfect opportunity spend a relaxing evening with us here at The Old Rectory.  The Annandale and Eskdale regions offer many miles of quiet country roads for the cyclist and visitor.  Within a radius of roughly 35 miles the district offers easy cycling on the flat coastal farmland and moderate upland cycling as you travel north into the hills and forests.
